1. Minimal Awareness
Personal and business finances are mixed, with limited or no tracking of income and expenses. Taxes may be unfiled or incomplete, and there’s little clarity on monthly financials or profitability.
2. Basic Separation
Business and personal finances are mostly separate, but tracking is inconsistent. Transactions often go through multiple channels (e.g., Venmo, PayPal, cash), and income or expenses are not well-tracked on a monthly basis.
3. Basic Tracking, Infrequent Updates
Sales are primarily tracked through a POS or simple system, and a spreadsheet or basic accounting software is used for income and expenses, though updates are infrequent. Financial information is primarily prepared for tax time rather than ongoing analysis.
4. Consistent Monthly Tracking with Bookkeeper Support
An accounting system is used regularly to track income and expenses, with assistance from a bookkeeper for accuracy. Monthly reports like Profit & Loss are reviewed for insights, though financial planning and projections may still be limited
5. Proactive Financial Management and Planning
Financials are thoroughly tracked with an accounting system that’s regularly reviewed and updated. Monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets inform financial decisions, with proactive financial projections guiding business goals and supporting funding opportunities
